Do you let other people’s NEGATIVE opinions get under your skin? When someone makes a review about the company you are working with and they call it a SCAM, do you allow their reviews to upset you? If the answer is yes, then this article is for you.
We need to be able to make our own decisions and overcome the opinions of others. Those people who write things like this are NEGATIVE (in my book) and they can easily lead you astray.
So how do we stand up, be true to ourselves and make our decisions based on what we believe to be right for us? How do we become independent of the opinion of others?
It requires two simple steps:
1. Understand yourself and your motivations
2. Understand others and their motivations
Let’s start with Understand Yourself and Your Motivations.
Understanding yourself begins by understanding why you give in and let others opinions upset or control you.
For example: I saw a post by a young man recently that was bashing a MLM company and its tools. He was very negative, calling it a scam and my first reaction was to really fuss but then I stepped back and thought about it for a moment. Why would he or anyone call a company a scam? To get people to their blog. Personally I think that is tacky for several reasons.
1. If you write good posts, you wouldn’t need to do that stuff just to get people there.
2. Negative talk turns me off. I would rather have positive or informative posts/videos.
3. Saying negative things about other people’s company will upset and turn away many followers.
4. If I commented then I was falling into just what he wanted, more attention.
So I say boycott negative posts by not commenting on them and certainly don’t syndicate them. Why spread negative things?
Understanding Others and Their Motivation
I won’t spend much time on this one because can you really understand someone else’s motivation? NO, and why should we?
Honestly I feel sorry for all the people that feel the need to write SCAM REVIEWS about any company. If you want to write a review, fine, but make sure all your facts are 100% correct. Even then, is it worth it to upset some followers you have just to criticize a company? Not me.That’s why you will never see me write a negative review about anyone or any company.
Positive thoughts and words will always make for a positive result. My friend Glyna Humm did a post and video about the same thing. Maybe this means NEGATIVE posts are on their way out….. I sure hope so. Thanks Glyna.
I would like to plug an awesome blog of another friend too. Kimberly Castleberry. She always gives great information.
I look forward to your comments.

Beverly,
You have given a wonderful viewpoint on the causes of negativity. This kind of action whether by an individual or a group/community does nothing but tear down everyone who comes in contact with them.
I have seen what almost amounts to a mob mentality these past couple of weeks over silly things that do not matter in the big picture of life. Instead of supporting and encouraging, certain ideas are causing people to worry about who’s the best & who has the most numbers. I feel very sad to witness this direction and focus. A community is defined as helping one another. That includes the whole online community.
I applaud you for standing up and speaking out.

Thanks Val.I like positive people.I hang out with positive people.Negativity isn’t necessary and I will stay away from those people and posts.I hope people think about this more. Thanks for commenting.

Hi Beverly,
I agree with you about moving beyond the negative posts about various companies. It does none of us any good to read these posts, let alone comment on them. The way some Internet Marketers drive traffic to their sites is to write “Scam” articles and posts. Naive researchers find these sites and then are suckered into buying that person’s systems (which is what the “Scam” writers wanted all along).
I have zero respect for anyone who writes a “review” of a company who has not actually built a business with that company. It bothers me that the “game” of driving traffic many people play is to use company names as keywords. These folks have no first-hand experience with the companies they are reviewing yet come across as experts to the uninformed reader. It is deceptive, and I believe that with growing awareness, we can thwart this kind of nonsense and bring more integrity to the whole online marketing community.

Thanks Mary Lou.We agree 100%. I hope those that are writing these reviews will see mine and Glyna’s post and take a hint. Thanks for commenting.

So well put Beverly! There seems to more more and more negativity out there the last few weeks. It must be from people who are very frustrated with themselves or their situation. I kind of feel sorry for them:(
Onward and Upward! There is a place for positivity!
Thanks

go Bev! …
Im kinda fed up with the negativity too. If you have a genuine review of a company’s products or services, fine … but DONT BASH by calling them liars or a scam. People will see the truth.
Thanks for the HEADS UP !!!
31. July 2010 at 1:26 pm
Thanks Jason.I hope people will just decide to be positive.
31. July 2010 at 2:34 pm
Hi Bev,
Love the video. You are dead on with your post. All you have to do is spend a couple of minutes on Twitter and search any companies name and you’ll find people out there calling them a scam. So, foe giggles I’ll sometimes go and read what they are saying just to see. Most of the time, they are full of BS. The funny thing is there be 3 or 4 other related posts about the “scam” and if you look at it, it’s the exact same article, post that was done by someone else. I guess they run in packs and just copy each other.
Anyway, like a garden if you don’t water and fertilize, it will eventually die. The same goes with these people and there posts. Don’t feed them, it’s not worth it.
Thanks for speaking the truth on this in such a pleasant way.
31. July 2010 at 2:47 pm
Thanks Don. I love the way you said they are like a garden, don’t water and feed it and it will die. A great comparison. Thanks for the comment.

I love to be positive, but some times we have to post negative reviews in case this really hurting my business, I remember once I have done one for ComCast internet company because I was treated in (what I think is) a bad way by their customer service agent, while I was having problems with my internet connection which affected my business so badly! this get attention of their tech manager and they fixed the problem the next day!
Sorry if I bother you with the story, although I am not used to publish negative reviews, unless some one really.. really.. deserve it! and from the other side I want to educate my blog readers how to deal with such problems and solve them fast!
I have done this because they are a big monster company, so.. I was using the power of blogging to fix a problem, although, I never do this for fellow bloggers as they most of the times need support and don’t mean to hurt anyone (this is also what I think about them)!
I must thank you for the great way of thinking, good read and nice video!

Hi Hesham. I am mostly referring to scam reviews and then people syndicating and commenting on them.I appreciate you stopping by and commenting.
31. July 2010 at 8:59 pm
I agree! Thanks for blowing the cover on these. What I mean by that is when we go on to the next thing and turn an eye out of haste, we silently accept what is there. When you stop and hold it up and let others know, you blow the cover off it. When some people have to get content out on a daily basis, they have to scrape for content and as you mentioned, trash raises interest and it is easy to do. Here’s to holding the bar where it needs to be. Cheers!

Thanks Patrick.I hope the people that are doing this see Glyna’s and my posts.I look forward to seeing what they say. Thanks!

Well said Beverly!
I think you’ll often find that these same people creating negative posts and comments will never be able to sustain longevity in their ventures. The truth is always exposed, that’s the way of the world!
Thanks for sharing!
2. August 2010 at 4:24 am
I agree with you Frank. Thanks for commenting.
1. August 2010 at 7:38 pm
Very well said, Beverly! I certainly have my opinions on companies, and will give my opinion when it fits in a 1 on 1 prospecting conversation, but choosing to blast a company publicly rides a weak and desperate line in my book. Especially because most reviews are uneducated and ill-intentioned.
I’ve been around this industry since I was 11, and raised with integrity at the core of all choices I make. I choose to focus my energy and attention on people who have an abundance mindset…people who want to make a significant and positive impact on the lives they touch….and beyond.
It’s a shame that there are internet marketers who use this tactic to draw traffic to their sites/ offers/ lists…..but then again, there will always be seedy people…..the important thing to remember, as you pointed out here, is that you can’t let one bad apple spoil the bunch!
2. August 2010 at 4:24 am
Thanks Beth.I respect you and appreciate your comment here.I hope to change a few people’s opinion. We’ll see.

Hi Beverly,
It’s unfortunate that there’s so much of this negatively ~ people claiming scams of successful & legitimate companies (and people!) out there, yet it happens. I agree with what Frank Profeta commented above…that negative posts & comments won’t be able to sustain longevity. I know it wasn’t easy to write this post, yet I can tell from what you wrote, that it was something that upset you (rightfully so!) & am glad that you were able to find a positive outlet for it ~ as well as spreading some positiveness around in general ~ Hey, let’s all do as Glyna suggests in her latest post & have a Positive Revolution!!
Christine

Thanks for the comment Christine.A positive revolution is a good thing and I will welcome that.
3. August 2010 at 6:57 pm
I think that sometimes critical review is good. Answering or contributing to the discussion will often take things to a different level of reflection. I fit is just bad mouthing to be disgruntled or dishonest then say what needs to be said if anything and let the person hang themselves.
Don’t fear oppositional points of views. If you are solid in what you are doing there is nothing that should disrupt your focus positive or negative…is has nothing to do with you afterall.
4. August 2010 at 9:04 am
I agree with you Rebecca if it is a good review but most times it trashes a company for no real reasons.I would prefer to stay away from those posts.
4. August 2010 at 8:00 am
You are so right . wouldn’t it be nice if kindness was the new marketing tactic? It wouldn’t even be a ‘tactic’ if it were delivered with true integrity. Negativity does play a role in our lives though, it helps us as individuals to come to terms with what we stand for and helps us to see perhaps a better way. Thanks Beverly, Kim
4. August 2010 at 9:05 am
I like the kindness tactic.I also like good reviews but when the title says this company is a scam or it sucks…Not something I feel is a good thing. Thanks for commenting.
5. August 2010 at 5:53 am
Beverly,
I’ve always wondered what could be accomplished if the same people who feel compelled to spread negativity instead did something that really helped others in the world. We all have a choice of how to spend our days….I feel a bit sorry for those who get up in the morning with the sole intention of trying to do harm to others….
You make an excellent point about not commenting on those kind of posts…doing so really does increase their popularity!
Thanks for a good post,
Robin
10. August 2010 at 5:17 am
I hope people will refrain from commenting on any negative posts. Less fuel to it the better.
5. August 2010 at 7:01 am
Although we should have respect for other people’s opinions, we need to learn how to let negative comments, thoughts, and opinions roll off our back and not focus on them. Successful people will never get ahead in life if we all worried about what others think. Stay focused on the positive…it’s always worked for me!
10. August 2010 at 5:16 am
You are correct, Eddie. I agree we should stay positive.
5. August 2010 at 4:55 pm
Thanks for the great post. This negativity is something that we will never be able to explain but like Jim Rohn says, I wouldn’t sign up for that class.
Always balancing,
Rafael
10. August 2010 at 5:15 am
I like Jim Ron’s comment. Thanks for sharing!
6. August 2010 at 11:58 pm
Hey Beverly…if we need to “bash” someone else’s opportunity just to get traffic…I’m not sure that is the type of person I want to be affiliated with anyhow. I agree…having people attracted to you from a positive light is so much better energetically than the inverse.
Thanks Beverly
10. August 2010 at 5:14 am
I agree Bruce. Ignore such garbage and be positive.

Hi Beverley – a post most will relate to. our susceptibility to criticism seems hard wired into our DNA as it seems so irrational to require the recognition of people who in most cases are not those whose opinion should matter to us.
There is nothing so adept at taking the wind out of criticism and is mastered skilfully by many a teen – and that is – ambivalence – the ‘whatever’ attitude that so infuriates parents but serves to teflon coat their ego and nullify the damage of unsolicited opinion!
Cheers Kiaran from mostly sunny Perth!
10. August 2010 at 5:13 am
Thanks Kiaran. I like the “Whatever attitude”.Great idea. Thanks!

Hi Beverly,
Thanks for speaking up about the scam posts and articles. They are akin to sensationalism in the newspaper and I do already boycott them. I am, as you are, committed to spreading positive help as much as I can. Isn’t this world negative enough already?
Thanks from a fellow TSA member.

Hi Beverly,
great point you are making in your article.
It reminds me of the saying “if you haven’t got anything good to say, don’t bother saying it”.
I rather give my attention to positive things. Kids seem to respond better if we use the same approach.
To your success.
Cheers,
Yorinda
