Have you ever thrown a rock into a perfectly still body of water and watched the ripples? The effect of that one rock can cause a huge “Ripple Effect”.

I Googled it and there were 3,013,000 results!
Please watch my thoughts on this subject.

What is focus, what does focus mean? There are 2 sides to focus: the quantity of focus and quality of focus. The quantity of focus is our ability to focus on one thing at a time. The opposite to focus is when our inner butterflies get triggered and we start focusing on numerous things at once. Multitasking is also the opposite to focus. Women, you understand multitasking. We do that all the time.

The quality of focus is the thing that you’re focusing on, where you’re putting your focus, time and energy. Be careful here, we can often get caught up focusing on the activity that we’re doing but forget about what outcome we want to achieve by focusing on this activity. Before focusing on any activity you must first start with the end in mind, what do you want to achieve by focusing on this activity and work back from that goal.
The Quantity of Your Focus

The objective here is to build your ability to focus on one thing for a maximum of 50 minutes at a time. You’ll then take a 10 minute break to relax and recover. Eventually the idea is for you to be able to build into your day 4 to 6 of these 50 minute focus chunks each day. This idea comes from Peter Drucker’s book called The Effective Executive. One of the things Peter talks about in this book is that we don’t focus on one thing long enough to achieve great results. We work on something for a little time and then we get distracted; we never build up any momentum. Momentum and longer term results comes from focusing on one thing for a longer period of time. If you don’t have the ability to focus on just one thing for a long period of time you’re never going to get any significant results. If you only focus for 10 minutes that’s not even enough time for your brain to get going.

The Quality of Your Focus

Let’s look at the quality side on what you need to be focusing on. In life we have different things that we might like to call our big opportunities, our big leverage points, the place we can invest and get a lot of return. No one is going to tell you what to focus on; you need to figure this out for yourself. You will know yourself where and when you have the best opportunities to leverage yourself. For example when is your most productive time throughout your day (morning, afternoon, night), when are you most productive at work, at home and with your exercise routine? These are the times when you know you get a big bang for your buck.

Your mind doesn’t know the difference between fact or fiction, it doesn’t understand don’ts, it only understands the literal. If you focus on don’t eat chocolate or don’t get caught up in external distractions (negative phrases) your mind just hears “eat chocolate, get distracted”. Children hear “do that” when you say “Don’t do that”! Use the words “Never do that” instead.

Your mind is your best friend and what it does is look for evidence to back up what you’re thinking because it doesn’t want to let you down. Here’s an activity you can do to understand the power of your mind! I don’t want you to think of a purple pig!!! Now I told you not to think of a purple pig, I know it slipped into your mind even though you told yourself not to think of it!!! You first had to think of it before you could eliminate it from your mind, that’s just how the mind works.

You’ve got to get very clear on the positive outcomes that you want. What does the finished, completed picture look like? When you have a detailed picture of what it looks like finished and you look at it, it gives you more motivation to do the work to get it. If you don’t know where you’re going then you don’t have any motivation to get there.

Not only do you need the strength and ability to focus for longer periods of time, the ability to know what to focus on, you also need the inner motivation to know what the outcome is and to be constantly putting the picture up in front of yourself to remind you why you’re doing it.

ARE YOU GETTING YOUR DESIRED RESULTS? Check your FOCUS….

I would like to hear your comments below. Thanks for stopping by.

In order for us to think we require some sort of stimulation (conscious or unconscious). And it is this stimulus that we attach ‘our thinking’ to and then we respond according to our thinking. We are often unaware of the thoughts as they are operating at a million miles an hour in the background of our mind unless of course we tune into them.

Between stimulus and response, you have the freedom to choose. This is your greatest power. One of the most important things you choose is what you say. Your language is a great indicator of how you see yourself. A reactive person uses reactive language “I can’t; I must, if only etc”. A proactive person uses proactive language such as “I can, I will, I prefer“ A reactive person doesn’t believe they have a choice.

Has there ever been a time when you’ve avoided making a call to a client, a colleague or a supplier? Why do we act and feel these responses? The simple reason is because we’re all creatures of habit and routine. We may have had a nasty experience with calling in the past therefore we think it will happen again with a similar person in the future so we adopt a ‘avoidance’ thinking pattern when placed in an environment, situation or circumstance similar to one in the past and we respond accordingly.

Thinking Activity
Think about the last time you lacked confidence. What was the event/situation/circumstance? Divide a piece of a paper up into 3 columns. In column 1 write a brief summary of the event, in column 2 write down a brief summary of what you did (i.e. mulled over the call for some time, got nervous, got defensive when you made the call etc.) and in column 3 write a brief summary of what you were thinking at the time that made you respond and react this way.

Get mentally fit!
If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got! Have you heard that before? In other words, if you want to change your outcomes in life, you need to change the thinking that created them in the first place. My friend and business partner,Terry Petrovick, calls it “STINKIN THINKIN!” Just like going to the gym, you need to go regularly to get and stay fit. The same goes for your mind. In order to change old habits, you need to replace them with new proactive ones, not just every now and then but every day in every way! I work on this daily to keep my THINKIN from STINKIN!

Your life doesn’t just happen. Whether you know it or not, it is carefully designed by you – or carelessly designed by you. It is after all, your choice. You choose happiness. You choose sadness. You choose failure. You choose courage. You choose fear. Every moment, every situation, provides a new choice. And in doing so, it gives you a perfect opportunity to do things differently to produce more positive results.

Being proactive is about taking responsibility for your life (at work and at play). You can keep blaming your parents, children, co-workers, customers, your situation and even your boss! Proactive people recognize that they are “RESPONSE-ABLE”. They don’t blame the circumstances or conditions for their behavior. They know they choose their behavior. Reactive people, on the other hand, are often affected by their physical environment. If the weather is good, they feel good. If it isn’t, it affects their attitude and performance. Ever let that happen? I have and that’s why I am CHOOSING to be proactive and change that forever!

Have You Got Ants in Your Pants?

Have you ever tried to put the skids on an ant? It’s virtually impossible. They never stop. Put one to the test someday. Pretend you’re five years old again and make a little hill in an ant’s path. The ant will walk up and over the top without braking. It will go into a hole, over a log, through grass. If it can’t go through, it will go around. An ant will never turn around and walk the other way, no matter what obstacles are in its path.

Try applying that determination to your life and your career. Of course you want to use your brain too. But in the determination department, be an ant! Refuse to be stopped. Keep going, make proactive choices and learn as you go. People who patiently persist finally see their dreams come true.

I would love to hear what you think about “STINKIN THINKIN”. Your comments below are always appreciated.

Just like this engine, if we keep going when our businesses get tough and NEVER quit, we too can reach our goals. Believe you can just like The Little Engine. Tell yourself, I Think I Can, I Think I Can… or even better say, I Know I Can,I Know I Can….

Every person reading this post can meet their goals with the correct Tools, Education, Leadership and Team. Sometimes you might need to ask for help from a coach and that’s okay. Never Quit and always move forward and you WILL SUCCEED just like The Little Engine.
A good friend of mine Frank Profeta, has a great post on this same subject. He even gives away a copy of the book titled As A Man Thinketh. Check his post too.
Please leave your comments below. I look forward to reading them.

Have you ever wished you could turn back time and change something you did or said?

If the answer to these questions is no, I applaud you for being such an awesome human being.
If you answered yes, then this is for you.

Contrary to popular belief, we cannot control our time here on earth. We can be the healthiest person on the planet and still leave this earth in a second if it is our time. Only God knows our final day on earth.

Being aware of that, we must live each day like it could be our last. By that I don’t mean doing crazy things. I mean make sure your family and friends, the ones most precious to you, are never left with angry words between you.

We all get angry with our family members. It’s human nature to disagree. Things will happen that will make you angry but… it doesn’t mean your love is gone. At that moment you may feel that but as times passes, you may even forget why you got so mad.

During these times, watch your words. What if you said something to your spouse, your parents, or your child that was really unkind and they left with those unkind words in their thoughts. The next day you get a call that they are dead, would you have regrets?

My husband died unexpectedly in a car accident 9 years ago. We hugged and kissed that morning as usual and within 30 minutes after he left I got the call of the accident. I have always been thankful we had a great last night together and a pleasant morning too. I had no regrets just sadness because he was gone.

A friend of mine that I met through Social Media just lost her 9 year old daughter a week ago. She fell out of a kayak at Lake Michigan and as of this moment, her body has not been found. What a Tragedy for this family. I can’t even imagine what they are going through. I pray there are no regrets here. Do you think they woke up that day thinking this was the last day she would be alive? She was 9 years old and healthy so I am sure that never crossed their mind.

Make each day count.

Stay connected with your loved ones.
Call your parents often, even daily as they grow older. Forgive them if they have disappointed you.

Remember, everyone will die sometime so don’t put off telling someone you are sorry or that you forgive them. Bitterness will hurt you the most.

Forgiveness is the best choice anyone can make.

Will you have regrets if your mom or dad died today?
Will you have regrets if your child died today?
Will you have regrets if your spouse died today?

You may not have tomorrow. You may only have today.

This was weighing heavy on my heart and I wanted to share. Comments are welcome.
